Hospitality Management Major

The Hospitality Management major will provide students with a wide range of critical thinking and problem solving skills related to becoming an effective manager within the hospitality industry, strong general business and leadership skills, and skills in specific business fields including accounting, management, marketing, finance and economics. The major provides a continuous experiential learning component which bridges classroom learning and hands-on summer work experiences.

Careers in Hospitality Management

The Hospitality Management major prepares students for one of the largest and most diverse career fields in the U.S. (as well as for jobs in global tourism).

Professional opportunities include:

  • Hotel/Motel Management
  • Tourism (including global tourism)
  • Food and Beverage Management
  • Event Planning

Experiential Learning

The professional development sequence for hospitality majors is designed to prepare students to learn by doing—under the guidance of professionals in the field as well as their supervising college professors. You will engage in two one-credit seminar-style courses each academic year to prepare you to get the most of your summer work experiences; you will then work in approved job sites each summer, reflecting upon your work experience through correspondence with a faculty supervisor. This work experience will also be the topic of discussion in courses completed in the following years.
